Not medical advice
AltitudeAhead is a planning tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
The guidance compares your itinerary with general, published acclimatization recommendations (CDC Yellow Book; Wilderness Medical Society Clinical Practice Guidelines, 2024 update). It cannot tell you whether you are acclimatized, fit to ascend or safe at altitude.
It does not account for previous acclimatization, history of altitude illness, medical conditions, medications, how you travel to the start, individual physiology, oxygen saturation or current symptoms.
A tour without highlighted days is not a safe tour. Altitude illness can occur on any schedule.
At altitude
If you or someone with you has symptoms of altitude illness, don't go higher. Suspected severe altitude illness — confusion, loss of coordination, breathlessness at rest — requires immediate descent and medical help.
Before travelling to high altitude, talk to a doctor, especially if you have a medical condition, take medication or have had altitude illness before.
